Well. It's been awhile. And you may be thinking, "Does this mean godsentcomics.weebly.com is finally being revitalized?!" The short answer: No. Because a new and improved and TOTALLY DIFFERENT website is coming soon(ish)!
I've said a handful of places that I was working on the new website, but that was about a year ago. Unfortunately, the current website's hosting doesn't work for my needs anymore, and it makes more sense for me to build a new site from scratch when we move. Building the new site has been more of an undertaking than I expected, and it's unfortunately been on the back burner for quite awhile. Working on remedying that. In the meantime however, some other updates! If you follow me elsewhere, you're probably already tired of hearing about my new Gumroad store. It's one of the main things I've focused on as of late, and I'm quite happy with the offerings on it. There are digital PDF editions of my comics and whatnot on there, plus other stuff. Also, in the time I haven't updated my blog, my Patreon both hit its heyday and unceremoniously fell out of it. I'll be closing my Patreon soon. My Ko-fi is still alive and kicking! Ironically as I'm writing a post about why I'm discontinuing this site, it caused my web browser to crash. That's another reason I'm moving hosts. I'll try to post on here again when the new site is public, but until then it'll probably be pretty quiet on here! All the best, -Lissie Dixon

Some of you may already know, but I recently sent the first issue of The Heyday Kids off to be printed. It's not astounding or anything, and I really only like the second half of it, but I told myself I would stop redoing things. So I didn't redo any art or anything like that before I sent it off. I'll regret that later, but for now it's fine. If the comic is approved and they think it's good for printing, I should have a proof copy in about two weeks. It's my first time using the company, so I'll probably try to make a review of my experience for YouTube. There weren't that many up-to-date videos about it. In fact, there were none. So I had to figure it all out on my own haha. Hopefully it turned out fine.
I definitely learned a lot about how to format and letter well, and I can see noticeable differences in how I did thinks from the start of the issue to the end of it. That's a good thing. Also if you're wondering where I've been...I've been really engrossed in making comics lately. The Heyday Kids has kept me really busy, and I'm working on formatting Aces for print at the same time, and making mini comics in between. But I'm happy. I need to get better about hopping offline to work though haha Until next time, -Lissie Dixon ♠ You may have guessed based off the pic on the homepage, but something is coming, and on February 14th. It's pretty exciting, and I can't wait to share it with you. Stay tuned to the Heyday Kids tomorrow to hear what's on the way!
That's all for now. Talk soon! -Lissie Dixon ♠ You’ve probably already seen it, but The Heyday Kids is a new project I started that I can work on in small increments and quick bursts. It’s to keep me working on something while I wait to progress with Aces, which is important. I’ve just been spinning my wheels lately, and this is helping me find a way to keep moving forward. It’s going well, I think, and I’m loving expanding the Godsent Universe even further. ^u^ I’ve actually wanted to do The Heyday Kids comic for a while, but I was planning on doing it in graphic novel form, and in the same sort of style as Aces (carefully inked and colored). The sketch and pencil approach feels a lot easier, faster, and less pressured. I hope you enjoy it, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!
P.S. I’ll try to share the colored lineart from the event soon—I’ve just gotten distracted haha Keep in touch! -Lissie Dixon ♠️ On January 7th, 2018, I completed inking the first issue of the Aces reboot!! I’m super hyped to start scanning and lettering some pages, but that will come in time. We’ll see. c: anyways, to celebrate I hosted a request livestream on Instagram where I drew what people asked. It was really fun, and I hope to do it again sometime haha.
In other news, the coloring event I’ve been hosting is ending tonight! I’ll be announcing the winners and showcasing them tomorrow (Jan. 11th, 2018), both here and on my Instagram (@lissiedixonart). If you noticed, I’ve been trying to be more active on here this year! I was last year, too, but life got crazy. I’ll eventually learn how to write shorter blog updates as well haha See you soon! Lissie Dixon ♠️ I just thought I’d check in and let those of you who watch this blog/website know what I’m up to.
I finished sketching the first issue of Aces, and it came out to about 34 interior pages. I’ve gotten about 20 pages inked, and have come to terms with that I might have to push the publishing schedule to summer 2018. The household printer/scanner I use broke down and doesn’t work right, so we need a new one. Our housecat broke my tablet stylus, so I need a new one of those, too. On Thanksgiving my great-uncle passed away, and it’s overshadowed pretty much everything else going on. I took part in an invitation-only art show in early December, where I sold two pieces and made $70. I’ve been working on a YouTube channel, which is Lissie Dixon Art, if you’re wondering. I post a video every Saturday. I can now afford a 72 marker Copic set, so in 2018 I’ll be picking and buying one of those. I’ve taken some time off this past week or so to play new games I got for my birthday (which was on December 11th) and Christmas. I’ve also been reading a bit more. I’ve been down due to a sinus infection lately though, so that’s not fun, haha I arranged a small coloring event that you might have seen on here already—it’s to celebrate 300 followers on Instagram. You don’t have to follow me on Instagram to take part though! c: Also, the laptop I do my art, YouTube work, writing and such...isn’t working right. ^-^;; Anyways, there’s the quick update. Hope you guys are doing well, and I hope you liked hearing some updates. Now I’d best go get back to work—see you around. (‘u’)/ Happy New Year—hope 2018 is better than 2017, haha. -Lissie Dixon ♠️ I didn't mean for that to happen. At all. Life just got reeeally busy, and a lot has changed. I'm not going to talk about that here, though. \('u')/
What I am going to talk about here is that Tangerine Target has taken the back burner while I work on--guess what?--ACES! AGAIN! I'm going back and redoing it again, but this time I'm doing it right. I'm starting from scratch. Again. Guess how long that's been going on? Over a month. I've gotten 27 full pages sketched out (At a rate of about one a day) and two pages completely inked. Since it's October, I thought I'd be doing InkTober. Instead I found myself inking a comic panel for each day of the month so I keep working on the comic. Which is good. I just kinda miss doing the prompts. I am considering doing a prompt list in a month or two though. Would you guys like me to upload the art here if I do? If you follow me on Instagram this probably isn't news. I did make a second Instagram account recently though--this one for more miscellaneous things, but mostly work-in-progress art photos and sketches, some of them from the new version of Aces. It's @comicsquid --just a bit of self-promotion there, haha. Speaking again of Aces, I meant to explain why I've done 27 new pages instead of just 22 like the original. I've edited the pacing of the story and am far happier with it now, but that means it's going to be longer. I've added new content to the story (the entire first page is new!), and the art is much better this time around. More consistent especially. I hope you will all like the newer version as much as I'm liking it. In fact, when it's done I'm planning on printing it...hopefully. I'm going to try to keep it under 40 pages so I can still print it through a comic book print-on-demand company, but we'll see. I'm actually close to the end. Page 27 lines up with about page 16 in the version currently available on the site here, if you were wondering. I'm going to try and finish sketching the last pages before the end of October. It might be aiming high, but I want to finish the inking for the comic before the new year. If all goes well, I should be able to have the first issue done by spring of 2018. That's what I'd like, at least. Winter will give me plenty of time indoors to work on it, though Christmastime will be busy as always, no doubt. I have high hopes for how fast I can get it all done though. I've been fine-tuning the website a bit, and hopefully you like the adjustments! I think it makes the site nicer looking for sure. I'm going to try to tweak the art gallery in the next few days, I think. Make the galleries more attractive and have some of the newer art off my Instagram, as well as older pieces I like. That's about all for now though. If you have any questions or anything, feel free to comment or send an email through either the Contact tab, or send one to Godsentcomics@gmail.com! I always love hearing from you guys. c: Talk to you soon! -Lissie Dixon ♠ The outlining phase is nearly over. I had a little pool of editors working with me, and after just a few more tweaks I think it'll be ready to start. Unfortunately I've been feeling quite under the weather and haven't been able to work on it much recently. I've not updated this blog in a long time either. Whoops. Sorry.
I would like to update the art area on the site soon, but it'll require a lot of scanning and a lot of editing. Fun times. Also, I've been thinking a bit. I think I'm going to release black and white versions of the Tangerine Target pages on here, that way if any parts feel weak you guys could let me know before I spend a bunch of money copyrighting finished pages. I won't be copyrighting it until later on though--once the coloring is done, probably. I'm both nervous and exciting. This is huge to me. I hope you all stick around to see it come together. -Lissie Dixon ♠️ The homepage recently got a tangerine background (Which I drew myself), as you might have noticed. I'm trying to get into the spirit for the upcoming project of Tangerine Target, which is majorly fruit themed. I'm so excited to get started, so I'm really pushing to get Aces #1 finished. I keep finding myself looking at the TT concept art instead of working on Aces though, which is ceaselessly annoying to me. I want to focus on Aces, but how can I with a glorious new concept lying there? Anyway, I almost have four pages recolored completely. I plan on relettering them as soon as I can and doing the new dialogue. I've been so busy lately...if I hadn't been I probably would be almost done with recoloring Aces. c:,' Ah well. I'm getting there at least. I'm hoping to be going on Tangerine Target by August--I might just take July for finishing Aces #1 up and doing the final touches on the TT story planning. I'm sure I'll probably cave and get started on it before August though, haha! Ah well.
I'll be trying to put up some of the Tangerine Target concept art soon--I meant to do that sooner, but I got sidetracked with life. I'm excited to share what I've got. Also, I'm looking for someone to help me with Tangerine Target. Not with the art or anything--I'm gonna try and handle that all myself--but I'd like someone who could read over parts as I get them done and tell me if I need to change things. One idea is to wait until I've got it all done and then have someone brutally edit it before final publishing. ^-^;; Anyway, I'm going to keep trying to find someone for a while. Multiple people would be good too. One thing about TT is that I'm NOT going to be doing a comprehensive script beforehand, like I am with Gloria and Tumble. I want TT to feel natural, and I feel like when I script every little thing, it loses that organic touch. Sure, I'll edit it and all, and I'll try to rein it in, definitely, but I feel like my writing gets better when I just kinda zone out, scribble down what I feel like the story needs, then tweak it afterwards. I'd like an editor to help me with the latter part and making sure the comic flows right. Anyways, that's all for now! Talk to you soon! ♥ -Lissie Dixon ♠ |
